Sleeps 6 (3 bedrooms) · 2 full baths · 3-night minimum · Starting at $390/night, $2,340/week · Dogs allowed
You may see more people go by Amos Brown House on horseback than in cars on an average summer day. Built in 1802 on 30 private acres, this brick cape-style home retains much of its original detail and is furnished with period furniture.
Amos Brown House is located in the town of Whitingham, in the Deerfield Valley in southern Vermont, half an hour from the Marlboro Music Festival, half an hour from skiing and snowboarding at Mount Snow, and 20 minutes from the shops and restaurants of Wilmington. The charms, culture, and outdoor recreation of Western Massachusetts - from the exquisite Bridge of Flowers to the world class art at MASS MoCA to rafting and ziplining with Zoar Outdoor - are nearby as well. Hiking, bicycling, bird watching, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are all available by walking out the front door. Six miles away, the Harriman Reservoir features canoeing, boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, and bird watching.
The solitude and open space makes the house a peaceful location for yoga, indoors or out, and make Amos Brown House a perfect distraction-free retreat for writing, artistic pursuits, focused work, stargazing, or just catching up on reading.
All of our properties include WiFi.
Up to two dogs are welcome at both Amos Brown House and at The Sugarhouse.
Add a Local Treat Basket for family retreats or working vacations at Amos Brown House! Real maple syrup, homemade apple pie, and more.

Testimonials from Amos Brown House Guests
“We LOVED the peace and quiet; we loved the beauty of the original home and all the treasures there. My grandkids absolutely thrived. We played games and talked and had meals at the dining room table! And every night we just sat outside and watched the fireflies. Just perfect! Thank you for this rare opportunity to experience real life.”
"This historic house is a gem, and we greatly enjoyed our stay. But most of all we enjoyed the quiet and solitude and the beauty of this old home and its embracing meadow and woodlands."
“Be prepared to be carried away to another place & time. It is a very magical home.”
“The stillness! The quiet! And two children running in open fields with complete delight and abandon."
“Peaceful and tranquil don’t even begin to describe the place. We embraced every second of it. We spent time in Wilmington, Dover, Brattleboro, and Marlboro, and lots of time at the house soaking up its vibe.”
“We had such a great time at the Amos Brown House! The location was perfect. It was very close to Mount Snow, where we went skiing one day, and not far at all from some convenience stores. Even my 17-year-old son and his friend enjoyed staying at this old historical home.”
“This beautifully restored house has afforded us some incredible peace, solitude, and total immersion in nature (bald eagle sighting!). Possibly my favorite Landmark Trust property yet; we have stayed in many in the UK.”
“The Amos Brown House was magical, with the perfect setting outside and charm inside, it was like being transported centuries in the past.”
