Landmark Trusts Abroad
The Landmark Trust preservation stewardship model is shared by two similar organizations abroad offering a combined 230+ historic properties available for overnight rental in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Italy. Like The Landmark Trust USA, these organizations have a mission to save and restore at-risk historic buildings and landscapes and make them available for guests to stay at for immersive experiences with history.
The Landmark Trust
Operating over 200 properties across England, Scotland, Wales, and Italy as overnight vacation rentals, The Landmark Trust pioneered the “Landmark” model in 1965. The Landmark Trust USA was actually established by The Landmark Trust in 1991 before becoming a separate organization in 1999. The Landmark Trust is a British charity dedicated to saving precious yet at-risk historic buildings using traditional craft skills. Their properties range from castles to cottages, forts to follies, and sleep 2-16 guests. Every year they welcome 70,000 vacationing guests to properties spanning the breadth of British history, including buildings known to monarchs, writers, great architects, and those in all walks of life.
Irish Landmark Trust
Irish Landmark Trust was established in 1992 with a mission is to save, share, and sustain built heritage across the Island of Ireland, North and South. Over the course of 30 years they have rescued over 40 buildings that were at risk and made them available to the public for overnight stays. Their current 30+ properties sleep from 2-12 guests and include lighthouses, gatelodges, country houses, schoolhouses, and more. They are a quirky collection of hidden gems that each offer their own special experience and charm.
