Give
Your gift helps The Landmark Trust USA restore and maintain historically important properties across New England and beyond, engaging our community with the power of place. Our unique stewardship model protects historic properties for future generations. Because The Landmark Trust USA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law (Federal Tax ID #03-0331485).
Annual Appeal
While short-term vacation rentals defray a major portion of the operating and maintenance costs of our historic properties, we rely on private gifts to help us address major capital repairs and property improvements. Thanks to our supporters, we have been able to make technological upgrades, including energy-efficient boilers to reduce our carbon footprint.
With your continued generosity, we plan to expand our work and rescue more historic properties that have been neglected and fallen into disrepair.
Your support allows us to offer creative place-based educational programming for the community – students and adults alike – near and far. Our school programs have reached more than 7,000 students.
Each guest who books a vacation rental in one of our beautiful historic properties also gives invaluable support that allows us to continue our important mission work.
Your gift supports…
Preserving and maintaining historic buildings and grounds, including Rudyard Kipling’s Naulakha. Kipling wrote The Jungle Books, Captains Courageous, and parts of the Just So Stories in the study of Naulakha in Vermont (pictured here). Before Landmark rescued this elegant building, it was abandoned, desperately needing repair, and home to a family of raccoons.
Your gift supports…
Engaging the community with creative place-based educational programming. From fun Open Houses at our properties that connect neighbors with their local history, to innovative student programs integrating with school curricula, to thought provoking lectures on important cultural heritage topics, our programming connects people to the power of preservation.
Your gift supports…
Making upgrades and renovations to our historic properties to better serve our guests and acquiring new properties in need of our attention. We know that an understanding of history is best gained through personal experience. To this end, we provide unique ways for people to experience history through the meticulous preservation of historic properties and the development of creative ways for the public to enjoy them.
Naulakha Campaign
This is a very exciting time for The Landmark Trust USA as we embark on a transformational project at our National Historic Landmark flagship property - Rudyard Kipling’s Naulakha - and its larger estate to preserve its history, protect it from climate change, and enhance the public’s experience of this treasured place.

Preserve…
Naulakha’s cedar roof has long provided insulation, aesthetic and historic beauty, and climate endurance. Now 30+ years old, the time has come to replace the roof in-kind with new historically accurate cedar shingles to ensure the building stays looking its best and is secure from water intrusion.
Protect…
In 2023 Vermont experienced 100-year and 1,000-year floods, and these are occurring with greater frequency. These more frequent rainstorms have highlighted the need for us to comprehensively address Naulakha’s drainage system to ensure the property is able to handle the impacts of a changing climate.
Enhance…
While the estate’s main house and carriage house have delighted overnight guests for decades, the original Stable has been left largely untouched. We are now completing a rehabilitation project to transform the Stable into a new year-round vacation rental destination while preserving its unique and beautiful historic character. (Update: Completed February 2026!)

“Naulakha is a treasure…it is easy to see why this was one of the two favorite places in the world Rudyard Kipling wanted to live.
The house and grounds are a place of enchantment, and our grandchildren will have memories to last a lifetime.”
— Visitor to Rudyard Kipling’s Naulakha
Naulakha is available for vacation rentals year-round.
