A Landmark Love Story

Special moments require special places. We’re honored when our Landmark properties are able to serve as the special setting for someone’s very special life event. Our beautifully restored historic Vermont properties are certainly unique places and lend themselves exceptionally well to marking important milestones from weddings to showers to anniversaries. They also make a great spot to get engaged, just like Melissa + Adam! Their story warms our heart, and we hope it warms yours too.

This fabulous Philadelphia couple was living in New York City during the height of the early pandemic when they received a delicious heirloom apple box from Scott Farm in the mail and learned that the beautiful Vermont orchard was connected to a converted sugarhouse available for rent! As a whole house rental, like all Landmark properties, it provided the perfect safe escape from city life. They had so much fun they promptly booked another stay. Little did they know at the time how eventful their next stay would be!

Prompted by their daughter’s tales of the joys of staying in a converted sugarhouse amidst the endless autumn foliage, Melissa’s parents enjoyed a stay at the property just a few weeks before Melissa and Adam were to return and joked about leaving hidden notes at the property for them to find. Stealthy Adam saw an opportunity and asked Melissa’s dad to leave a special note!

When Melissa and Adam arrived a few weeks later and Melissa was out getting some delicious local pizza for dinner, Adam checked to be sure the note was in place. Upon Melissa’s return, Adam noted casually that he’d found some of his soon to be father-in-law’s hidden notes and Melissa should check behind the maple syrup labels. There in her father’s writing was, “Dear Melissa, Adam has something for you.” When she turned around, there was her fiance kneeling with a ring in his hand!

The rest of the night was just as magical. “We went outside to take in the endless stars, just like we did on our first date,” said Melissa. “The Sugarhouse is so private and secluded, it felt like we had carved out this incredible piece of the world all to ourselves. With a clear sky and no light pollution, it felt like the whole universe was ours alone.”

Asked what they’d say to other couples considering popping the question or celebrating another significant event at a Landmark property, Adam said without hesitation, “Definitely do it! I’ve recommended The Landmark Trust USA to so many family and friends. It’s a true getaway in every sense of the word.

Adam + Melissa are excited to return to The Sugarhouse later this year to celebrate their engagement anniversary!

If you’re on the hunt for the perfect place to truly escape and celebrate, may Adam + Melissa’s love story this Valentine’s season make you smile as much as it did us. We look forward to seeing you at one of our historic properties for an unforgettable stay soon!
